The video we chose

3 minutos de leitura

A story of the adventure to portray the local consumption economy.

I scared seagulls at the port of Sines, washed a mountain of dishes at Balz’s house, woke up at 5 am for the sunrise, picked up a pair of socks left behind, held onto Danilo to prevent him from falling off the cliff, made calls halfway around the world to find an elderly couple willing to be extras, heard Leonor say “It is necessary for the people to be united”, countless times, filled my sandals with dirt and mud in the gardens of Raposeira, scratched the car all over in the thicket of Troviscais, annoyed Manel so much because the lines in the drawings weren’t thin enough, got a sunburn on my face in S. Luís, and got the car stuck on the way to Mariana’s house…

Ensuring the production of the new promotional video for Rota Vicentina was so much fun!

We wanted the promotional video “The landscape we choose” to also serve as a means of raising awareness. Being already aware of the close connection between local products and the sustainability of a region, we wanted this video to simplify the message and show that, after all, it’s quite obvious: the landscape we cherish depends on the consumption choices we make, both as residents throughout the year and as tourists when we visit. Therefore, we sought to highlight these consumption chains: from the field to the bread, passing through the mill and the oven… from the sea to the fish stew, passing through the fishermen and the chef… You get the idea!

It was 18 months of filming, during which we also wanted to capture the seasons and production cycles. Mother Nature played tricks on us, and we found ourselves filming scorching sun in January, grey skies covering the sea in the middle of July, or dry land in March.

Because the region covered by Rota Vicentina is vast and diverse, we went everywhere! We filmed sheep grazing with an ocean view in Vila do Bispo, the market stalls in Lagos, a wonderful breakfast in Aljezur, the meanders of the River Mira in Odemira, the arrival of fish in Sines, the baking of bread in Santiago do Cacém… We stayed on the coast with fisherman Vasco, went under the cork oak trees being harvested by Guilherme, strolled along the river with Jorge and Santiago, watched the sunrise by windmills…

“The result of this adventure is finally online! It started on November 18, 2021, at Pego das Pias and ended on January 28, 2023, in Sines. And now, it’s finally traveling around the world.”

I want to personally thank everyone who got involved and provided support in any way, and I want to highlight my colleagues on Rota Vicentina Association team, true friends at heart.
