Rota Vicentina receives the medal of tourist merit of Responsible Tourism
3 minutos de leituraAt the VII Portuguese Tourism Summit, held in Mafra on September 27th, World Tourism Day, the Rota Vicentina Association received an honorable mention for its commitment and contribution to responsible tourism.
In this significant event, which focused on the main theme “tourism is value”, key figures from the Portuguese tourism sector came together, gathering operators, local and national entities, experts, and associations to discuss new trends and challenges in tourism.
During the awards ceremony, the efforts of those who significantly contribute to the sustainable development of tourism in the country were recognized.
A decade of commitment to responsible tourism
Representing Rota Vicentina at the ceremony was Marta Cabral, the Association’s President, who received the award on behalf of the entire team.
Receiving this recognition brings us particular satisfaction, as it confirms the value of our work over the past decade.
Feeling recognised for being the first to talk about responsible tourism in the region was a very emotional moment.
The Medal of Tourist Merit received in Mafra highlights the importance of sustainable tourism practices and the pioneering role that Rota Vicentina has played in promoting these values in Southwest Portugal.
According to the text published in the Diário da República, the Medal of Tourist Merit, 2nd degree (silver), is awarded to Rota Vicentina for
being a pioneering example of sustainability in tourism for many years now, at a time when this concept was not yet widely discussed. By enhancing the outstanding natural resources of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentina Coast, it has established itself as a model of excellence in tourism development.
Rota Vicentina has the ability to be a territorial project, in a way regenerative, while having a real impact on tourism. It is one of the few products that effectively mitigate seasonality in the region, promoting Alentejo and Algarve in both the national and, especially, international markets.
Looking to the future
With an eye on the future, the Rota Vicentina Association continues to work toward building a tourism model that not only attracts visitors from all over the world but also helps to preserve the beauty and uniqueness of the region for future generations, maintaining a delicate balance between tourism development and environmental conservation.
On behalf of the entire team, members, and partners of Rota Vicentina, we extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who made this distinction a reality: the Secretary of State for Tourism, the Portuguese Tourism Confederation, the Alentejo Regional Tourism Authority and the Algarve Tourism Association, key entities in recognizing our work in responsible tourism and nature conservation along the Alentejo and Vicentina coast.
